Kokeshi Dolls

Kokeshi Dolls

Kokeshi Dolls are little wooden dolls known to house tiny little message scrolls inside of them

I believe I have mentioned this in either a past post on instagram or blog, so forgive me for the repeat.

When my second son was at Camp Minden, I started writing him everyday. I didn't want to just send a plain letter and was not allowed to 'decorate' it, so I drew random illustrations about my day.

The day I drew the kokeshi dolls,  I was upset because I wanted to purchase about four hundred and twenty two of these adorable little kokeshi dolls. (okay, maybe it was more like three hundred and fifty or something) but at the moment, I was banned from purchasing off of Etsy - for good reasons, y'all! I decided to tell my son all about it (along with some other random things) and this letter has always been one of my favorites to revisit and reminisce about that time.

That time in my life was extremely difficult and I thought I was ready to talk more about it, but as I sit here and type, I just can't.

I guess I'm not ready to open that door of my heart at the moment.

How ironic considering I am choosing to keep this rolled up and tucked away inside of me like the secret scrolls these little kokeshi dolls keep in them.

But I am ready to share them with you. I've wanted to use these sweet little dolls for something and I am satisfied with what I settled on.

Below is the left side of the letter( with some black outs over private information and names) I won't be sharing the right side because it contains a little too much - but some of the little dolls I did share in the note packs ;)

Since he has moved away, it's been hard and reading all the letters and remembering every single moment that was written, brings me peace on those not- so peaceful days.

If you're lucky enough to grab one of these sets, I do hope you enjoy them as much as I did when I received the letter back and when I first drew them.
